
Today, Travonte Tate pleaded guilty to cruelty to a police dog after stabbing Rock Hill Police Department K9 Officer Apollo on August 28, 2025. He received the maximum sentence allowed by law of five years for that charge, according to the 16th Circuit Solicitor's Office's Facebook post.
Tate also pleaded guilty to resisting arrest with a deadly weapon. He was sentenced to eight years for that offense, to be served concurrently with the sentence for cruelty to a police dog, as per the 16th Circuit Solicitor's Office.
Assistant Deputy Solicitor Misti Shelton prosecuted the case. K9 Officer Apollo has since recovered from his injuries.
