Last night, a significant collision on I-70 westbound rattled Washington County, leaving two people so severely injured they required aerial transport to a hospital, emergency dispatchers reported. The incident, which transpired between Exits 15 and 11, drew a swift response from first responders and the subsequent closure of the busy interstate, creating a hassle for local commuters.
The crash, involving a sedan and a dump truck, was severe enough to necessitate the airlifting of both passengers in the sedan, as indicated by the data from Washington County dispatchers obtained by WPXI. The sedan, which sustained considerable damage at the front, was removed from the scene by towing services, the dump truck remained roadside for an extended time after the event.
As investigated by authorities, the aftermath of the collision forced PennDOT to implement a traffic detour, redirecting vehicles along Route 40 while crews worked tirelessly to clear the accident site and ensure the safe reestablishment of normal traffic flow.
It was thanks to these concerted efforts that all lanes were eventually reopened to the public as confirmed by WTAE.
