Drawn to UC for its comprehensive civil engineering curriculum that spans from concrete to timber, Patnala cites the university's expert faculty, many of whom contribute to American standard committees, as a key factor in his decision to pursue his studies there.
With a long-standing curiosity about how buildings are constructed and how they stand tall, Patnala embraced the tough challenges of structural engineering, driving him into projects that are unique and complex, which he thrives on tackling daily for the sense of constant motivation this work imbues, according to the details he shared with UC News. His research work, focusing on the evaluation of a new washer design for steel connections to potentially improve safety and efficiency in the assembly process, hopes to set a new industry standard for high-strength connections.
Patnala's time at UC has been marked by a series of impactful experiences, including adapting to a new country and education system, which he feels have shaped his growth and built his confidence.
