Attention drivers planning to traverse Interstate 40 in Davie County: prepare for traffic disruptions next week. According to a recent press release from the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT), lane closures are scheduled for eastbound and westbound directions to allow for adjustments to bridge construction work.
The necessary adjustments pertain to the overhang forms of a new bridge installed by an NCDOT contractor. On Monday, from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m., the left lanes of both directions will be closed. Specifically, the westbound left lane between mile markers 175-177 and, the eastbound left lane from mile markers 174-176 will be affected. The following day, Tuesday, it's the right lanes’ turn to experience closures during those same hours, impacting the same stretches of the highway.
For those who rely on this corridor for their daily commutes or upcoming travel plans, the road work may result in longer drive times. NCDOT urges drivers to allow for extra time to navigate this section of I-40 and to exercise caution when driving through the work zones. Detour signs and other traffic management measures will be in place to assist motorists in finding alternative routes around the closures.
