The Verona Police Department is currently on the lookout for Joseph Fisher of Pittsburgh, who became a fugitive following an incident at the GetGo parking lot on Sunday. As per a report from WPXI, Fisher is accused of fleeing a traffic stop and attempting to evade arrest by giving officers the identity of a relative. The police have since issued charges against Fisher for flight to avoid apprehension, escape, and providing false identification to law enforcement.
After giving officers the slip at the traffic stop, Fisher was later released. It was then that investigators confirmed his actual identity and discovered his status as a fugitive since January 14. According to the details provided by CBS News Pittsburgh, Fisher had previously escaped from the Renewal corrections center, where he was placed after a robbery conviction. Running from the traffic stop, the identity provided to the police by Fisher led to a delay in recognizing him as a fugitive.
The Verona Police are encouraging anyone with information about Fisher's whereabouts to come forward and contact the authorities immediately. Fisher, whose escape added to his list of charges, has provoked a heightened sense of urgency in law enforcement to locate him.
Those with any leads are strongly urged to call 911.
