Village Rose Deli has quietly turned a sleepy Bay Village storefront into an all-day hangout at 328 Bassett Road, mixing neighborhood market, café and wine shop under one roof. From the team behind Tremont’s Grumpy’s Café and longtime caterer Brittany Reilly, the spot leans hard into community: a full coffee bar, grab-and-go pantry staples, sandwiches and a curated wine program with ticketed tastings all share space in the century-old building.
After a low-key soft opening in November, the owners spent the winter ramping up service and rolled out a full deli counter in January. The historic Bassett Road space now pulls double duty as an entertainment hub, hosting live music, kids’ activities and game nights in a roomy dining area that also pours draft beer.
Hours, wine club and the basics
Village Rose currently lists its hours as 7 a.m.–8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m.–8 p.m. on Sunday. The team is also courting regulars with a wine-club membership that comes in two- and four-bottle monthly tiers. According to Village Rose Deli, members can opt for two bottles per month at $50 plus tax or four bottles at $90 plus tax, get access to members-only events and pick up their wines in person on the second Tuesday of each month.
Menu and licensing quirks
On the food-and-drink front, the shop runs a full espresso bar alongside a rotating sandwich lineup, prepared foods and pantry items, as noted by Cleveland Scene. The deli counter features Boar's Head meats and a wide range of cheeses, and the owners put on ticketed wine tastings, according to Cleveland.com. That report also notes the business does not yet have a license to sell wine by the glass.
The team behind it
The project comes from partners Kathy Owad and Kristi Mulloy, the duo behind Grumpy’s Café in Tremont, along with Brittany Reilly, who has cooked professionally for 25 years, according to Cleveland Magazine. The City of Bay Village helped roll out the welcome mat, promoting a grand-opening weekend in late January that featured local officials and community giveaways.
Events, music and the neighborhood vibe
Village Rose is clearly aiming to be more than a quick coffee stop, building out a steady slate of ticketed wine tastings, live music, kids’ activities and game nights listed on its events calendar at Village Rose Deli. The owners also offer catering and occasionally host themed dinners and wine-focused nights designed to pull in both families and later-evening crowds along the Bay Village commercial strip.
How to follow
The crew posts daily specials and pop-up event news across its social channels, and the deli’s homepage and social links remain the go-to spots for current menus and bookings, per Cleveland.com. For now, Village Rose Deli gives Bay Village residents a nearby option for coffee runs, quick lunches and the occasional ticketed night out without trekking into the city.
