Portland cult favorite Voodoo Doughnut is finally rolling into Miami, cutting the ribbon on its first local shop in Wynwood next Thursday at 10 a.m. The pink-boxed powerhouse is moving into 2401 NW 2nd Ave, marking the chain's 26th location in the United States. Opening day will mix sugar highs with a feel-good spin, pairing giveaways for early customers with a donation to local mental health services.
Opening Day Freebies And Charity Partner
According to Bake Magazine, the first 200 guests at the Wynwood shop will score a free Fate & Fortune doughnut. Each one comes with a shot at finding a Pink Fortune filling, which is the golden ticket for free doughnuts for a year. The first 26 customers who make a purchase will also walk away with a Voodoo Pink Gift Bag, and the company says 20 percent of opening day proceeds will benefit NAMI Miami-Dade County.
“We’re incredibly excited to open our first shop in Miami and become part of the Wynwood community,” Celise Ellis, Voodoo's vice president of operations, said in a statement shared with Bake Magazine.
Menu Staples And The Wynwood Vibe
Per the locations page on Voodoo Doughnut, the Wynwood shop will offer more than 30 handcrafted doughnuts. Regulars will recognize headliners like the Bacon Maple Bar, the Voodoo Doll and the Memphis Mafia, along with several vegan picks for plant-based pastry fans.
The chain's bright, quirky décor and late-night reputation are set to plug right into Wynwood's nightlife-heavy strip, where murals, foot traffic and after-hours crowds collide. Local outlets have treated the opening as a long-anticipated move for Miami's growing artisanal doughnut scene, with Miami New Times highlighting the neighborhood's pull for destination food spots.
Wynwood-Only Flavor And Community Ties
Bake Magazine reports that a Wynwood-exclusive doughnut, the Sublime Key Lime, will hit the case on opening day and run through March 31. The flavor is dipped in key lime frosting, topped with key lime fluff and finished with crushed golden graham cracker crumbs, and a portion of sales will benefit NAMI Miami-Dade County.
Susan Holtzman, president and CEO of NAMI Miami-Dade County, told Bake Magazine that Voodoo's "bold approach matches our own" and said the nonprofit is looking forward to the partnership. The Wynwood-only flavor and opening day donation continue Voodoo's pattern of tying new shop debuts to local charities.
What To Expect On Opening Day
Expect lines and early-bird energy. The company says the first wave of guests will snag giveaways, and early buyers have a shot at merch-packed Voodoo Pink Gift Bags along with their doughnuts.
