Washington Park residents can look forward to well-lit streets as the Broward Municipal Services District initiates a major lighting overhaul, Broward County's Public Works and Environmental Services have announced an upcoming street lighting replacement project slated to begin on February 16 with Florida Power & Light spearheading the construction efforts.
The enhancement includes the installation of sturdier concrete poles and energy-efficient LED luminaires, aiming to meet state-approved lighting specifications which requires the neighborhood roads and walkways to illuminate with greater efficiency; these structural changes are expected to be constructed within the County's designated space while minimizing impact to residents during off-peak hours through strategically planned traffic detours, and alternative paths for pedestrian traffic will be provided, as per the county's news release.
District 8 Commissioner and Vice Mayor Robert McKinzie, representing the area, underscored the value of this development, stating, "Improved lighting in Washington Park makes the neighborhood safer for pedestrians and drivers, as concrete poles can better withstand severe weather. These latest improvements complement the work that has been completed to make this area more accessible for everyone in the community," in a statement obtained by Broward County's news release.
Local authorities have coordinated with the Washington Park Homeowners Association to align this project's goals with the community’s needs, ensuring that the residents are integral to the process, and with residents looking ahead to brighter nights, the neighborhood seems set for a tangible upgrade in both safety and aesthetics thanks to this joint venture.
