Saturday turned tense on Denver's west side after a shooting on West Maple Avenue left at least two people headed to local hospitals and detectives combing the block for clues.
Denver police said officers rushed to the 1500 block of W Maple Ave and stayed on scene into the investigation, working to piece together what unfolded in the Valverde neighborhood.
What police say
According to the Denver Police Dept., officers first responded to reports of gunfire, then discovered a second victim while they were already investigating the scene. The department said that the person was also taken to the hospital and that the extent of injuries was not yet known.
Detectives remained in the area collecting evidence and talking with witnesses, according to the department's post, as they tried to track the path of the gunfire and who might have been involved.

The shooting call came from the 1500 block of W Maple Ave in Denver's Valverde neighborhood, just west of the South Platte River. Mapping tools that track recent reports list that block among the neighborhood's incident pins, according to Denver Crimes.

Police directed residents to call the department's non-emergency line at 720-913-2000 with tips that are not urgent, and to call or text 911 for emergencies. Investigators also urged anyone who captured video or photos near the time of the shooting to hold on to them and contact authorities if they might help the case.
