Starting at 12:01 a.m. today, Wisconsin highways are officially under the frozen road law. The law allows trucks to carry heavier loads of materials like logs, salt, and sand during winter conditions, Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced.
The seasonal weight program protects roads that cannot handle heavy loads year-round. Wisconsin Department of Transportation uses frost tubes and temperature forecasts to determine which roads can safely support increased weights and provides an interactive map showing frozen roads, Class II roads, and posted limits.
