Yumsem Eats, the Korean street-food chain that brought its first Tampa outpost to town last year, is gearing up for a return a little closer to the University of South Florida. The reopening is slated for a new storefront along Bruce B Downs Boulevard, a move that pulls the brand away from its former pickup window on Fletcher Avenue that shut down late last year. Fans of the spot’s kimbap, tteokbokki and halal-friendly bowls are now in wait-and-refresh mode for an official opening date.
According to WhatNow, Yumsem’s Google Maps listing shows the old Fletcher Avenue address at 1441 E. Fletcher Ave., Suite 127 as relocating to 11802 Bruce B Downs Blvd, Unit 103. The listing notes the Fletcher location closed on November 10, with a projected reopening date of December 7. WhatNow also reviewed plan-review paperwork from KFNR Group LLC that names Yumsem at the Bruce B Downs address, and reported that co-owner Chong Yo was not immediately available for comment.
Brand Lists Bruce B Downs As ‘Coming Soon’
On its own site, Yumsem flags the Bruce B Downs unit as “Coming Soon” while still displaying the Fletcher Avenue address in its Tampa lineup. The brand also plays up its use of 100% halal ingredients and automated machines in food preparation, according to Yumsem Eats.
How Yumsem Landed In Tampa
The chain’s Tampa arrival in early 2025 drew quick coverage from local outlets, which also noted plans for multiple locations in the area, as That's So Tampa reported. Early writeups framed Yumsem as a halal-friendly Korean option that seemed tailor-made for steady foot traffic from USF students and nearby North Tampa neighborhoods.
What To Watch
For now, the reopening schedule is still a moving target. Google Maps continues to list the Fletcher Avenue spot as temporarily closed and the Bruce B Downs address as coming soon, and Yumsem has yet to post a firm opening date. Diners keeping tabs on the rollout can monitor the brand’s website and social channels for updates; Yumsem links its Instagram and other platforms from its site.
