Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police homicide detectives are digging into a deadly shooting in east Charlotte after a man was found shot along the 5800 block of Albemarle Road near Central Avenue. Officers say the victim, identified as Luis Daniel Gutierrez Mora, was hit by gunfire at about 2 a.m. on March 22 and rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. He died there on March 24, and CMPD now has an active homicide investigation on its hands.
According to WCNC, officers first responded to a call for an assault with a deadly weapon in the same block, where they found Gutierrez Mora suffering from gunshot wounds. So far, police have not announced any arrests or publicly named suspects. As reported by WCNC, investigators are asking anyone with information to call 704-432-8477 (TIPS) to reach a homicide detective, and they are working leads while canvassing the area for witnesses and surveillance video that might show what happened.
How Police Are Investigating
Detectives from CMPD's Homicide Unit, along with Crime Scene Search technicians, are collecting and processing evidence tied to the shooting. East Charlotte has seen its share of homicide investigations in recent years, and local station WBTV has previously reported on similar overnight shootings along the Albemarle Road corridor. In those earlier cases, police leaned heavily on community tips and surveillance footage to track suspects, a playbook that appears to be in use again.
How To Help Investigators
Per WCNC, anyone with information about this case is urged to call 704-432-8477 (TIPS) and ask to speak with a homicide detective. Tips can also be shared anonymously through Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Crime Stoppers page.
