Investigators in Alamosa are trying to track down a 44-year-old man after deputies found a 49-year-old man dead inside a home in the 3000 block of Lincoln Avenue on Sunday. The victim had visible injuries, and officials are holding back his name until they can reach his relatives. Authorities are warning the public not to approach the man they want to question and are urging anyone with tips to call law enforcement instead of playing detective.
What Investigators Say
As reported by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the agency said on Monday that it is assisting the Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office, the Alamosa Police Department and the Colorado State Patrol in an active homicide investigation. Deputies found the 49-year-old victim inside a residence in the 3000 block of Lincoln Avenue, and investigators have identified 44-year-old Fernando Rodriguez as someone they want to question in the case.
According to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Rodriguez is believed to be driving a green 1995 Subaru station wagon with Colorado plate AXO-F61. Officials are asking the public to stay away from him and to call authorities instead if he or the vehicle is spotted.
Identity And How To Help
The Alamosa County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity once next-of-kin notifications are complete, according to the Alamosa County Coroner’s Office.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency dispatch at 719-589-5807, per the Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities say Rodriguez should not be approached and that tips should be routed through law enforcement.
Why The CBI Is Involved
The CBI frequently assists county agencies on complex investigations in rural parts of Colorado, including past work in the San Luis Valley, according to a CBI news release. These multi-agency responses give local investigators added forensic and investigative resources as the case moves forward.
Investigators say the case remains active, and anyone who sees Fernando Rodriguez or the green 1995 Subaru station wagon with Colorado plate AXO-F61 should call the Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office at 719-589-5807. If there is an immediate threat, officials say to call 911, and again stress that the person of interest should not be approached for safety reasons.
