Apache Junction is getting a serious internet upgrade. The City Council has signed off on a license agreement that clears the way for Google to roll out its GFiber network across town. The company has told local outlets it expects to start construction later in 2026.
According to the Phoenix Business Journal, the deal gives Google permission to place fiber lines, conduit and related equipment in city rights-of-way. The Business Journal also notes that the move makes Apache Junction the fifth Valley community to team up with Google as GFiber continues its push across metro Phoenix.
What GFiber Will Offer
On GFiber's Arizona page, Google advertises residential internet plans at speeds up to 8 gigabits per second. The company lists a 1-gig plan at a nationally posted $70 per month, with multi-gig tiers also available. The service is marketed as a turnkey package, with whole-home Wi-Fi options, professional installation and included hardware.
Where This Fits In the Valley Rollout
Apache Junction is joining an East Valley club that is already growing. Mesa and Chandler currently have GFiber customers, and KTAR has reported that construction recently started in Queen Creek and Tempe as Google extends its network farther across metro Phoenix. Adding Apache Junction would push that footprint deeper into the eastern part of the region and give residents another option alongside existing cable and fiber providers.
Timeline and City Process
The exact construction schedule will hinge on permitting, utility coordination and how crews sequence the work, but the Phoenix Business Journal reports that Google plans to begin building later in 2026. City meeting listings on the Apache Junction Legistar calendar show spring council agendas tied to public works and right-of-way activity as staff and Google work through implementation details. Those procedural steps typically come just before construction teams start showing up in neighborhoods for trenching, conduit installation and fiber splicing.
How Residents Can Prepare
Residents who want GFiber service will be able to sign up for updates and check address-level availability through Google’s online tools once local build zones open. In other Valley cities, Google has rolled out service in phases, block by block, and sent notices to specific streets as construction and testing wrapped up.
Officials say more detailed neighborhood schedules and staging plans will be released as permitting and coordination progress. For now, residents are being encouraged to keep an eye on City Council agendas and GFiber availability notices to see which parts of Apache Junction get lit up first.
