A pedestrian was pushed from a moving vehicle in Bellaire on Wednesday, then dragged a short distance along the 5200 block of Bellaire before officers tracked down a suspect with help from witnesses and a fast, coordinated police response, according to investigators, as reported by MyTexasDaily.
Man Arrested, Charged With Aggravated Assault
Police identified the suspect as Ronald Guy and arrested him on aggravated-assault charges in connection with the incident Wednesday evening. Investigators say the victim was forced out of the vehicle and dragged a short distance. The driver reportedly kept going briefly, then stopped, got out and ran away on foot. Officers later intercepted a nearby bus, where a man was taken into custody, according to MyTexasDaily.
Drone as First Responder Aided the Search
During the search, Bellaire’s Drone as First Responder program provided officers with aerial information, helping them monitor the area from above. The department has expanded the program in recent years, after receiving FAA approval for beyond-visual-line-of-sight drone operations in early 2025, as reported by KPRC Click2Houston. City council records reflect that Bellaire accepted donated drone equipment for first-responder use in March 2025, according to City of Bellaire minutes.
What the Charge Means
Under Texas law, aggravated assault is a felony that carries significantly higher penalties than a simple assault. The statute defines aggravated assault as an assault that causes serious bodily injury or involves the use of a deadly weapon, and it is typically prosecuted as a second-degree felony or higher in some circumstances, according to Texas Penal Code §22.02.
Bellaire Boulevard Safety in Focus
Bellaire Boulevard has seen multiple pedestrian incidents and fatalities in recent years, and neighbors and advocates have repeatedly pressed for engineering and enforcement changes along the corridor. That history has sharpened local concern after this week’s attack, as reported by the Houston Chronicle.
Bellaire police publicly commended the quick work of responding officers and thanked witnesses who provided key information, the department said. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Bellaire Police Department, according to MyTexasDaily.
