Belmont police are asking for the public’s help tracking down a man who, in the middle of the day Monday, walked into the State Employees’ Credit Union on Wilkinson Boulevard, demanded money and walked out with cash, according to investigators. Officers say he climbed into a gray or silver Nissan sedan and was last seen heading toward Gastonia. No injuries were reported, but detectives have released surveillance stills and are leaning on the public to help identify him.
Robbery Details
The robbery happened shortly before 12:30 p.m. Monday at the State Employees’ Credit Union branch on Wilkinson Boulevard, according to WBTV. Police told the station the man walked into the lobby, demanded cash from staff, then left the building and got into a gray or silver Nissan sedan. The car was seen leaving the area in the direction of Gastonia. Officers have shared what appear to be security-system stills from inside the branch as they work to track the suspect’s route before and after the robbery.
How To Contact Police
According to the Belmont Police Department, anyone with information about the robbery or the suspect is asked to call the department at 704-825-3792. The department’s page lists its main line and non-emergency contact numbers, and officials say callers can use those lines to share tips, photos or video that might help the case. Police emphasize that anyone who believes they see the suspect in person should call 911 instead of attempting to approach him.
What The Images Show
Belmont officers released several security photos that, according to WBTV, appear to show a Black man wearing a dark baseball cap, glasses, a dark button-up shirt and a black T-shirt. Investigators say the stills are being used to help confirm the suspect’s identity and to piece together his movements surrounding the robbery. As of the latest update, police have not announced any arrests.
Past Incidents On Wilkinson Boulevard
Wilkinson Boulevard has seen its share of bank crime in recent years, and investigators often lean on surveillance images and vehicle details to crack those cases. For example, WCCB Charlotte reported an attempted robbery at the same SECU branch in October 2022, a case that highlighted how quickly a good vehicle description or license-plate number can turn into a solid lead. Incidents like that are a big part of why detectives now press the public for any photos, video or clear descriptions when a new case hits their desk.
If You Saw The Suspect
Per the Belmont Police Department, anyone who thinks they recognize the man in the photos or remembers seeing a gray or silver Nissan sedan leaving the SECU around 12:30 p.m. Monday should contact police at 704-825-3792 or use the department’s non-emergency lines. Officials say detailed tips, including time, direction of travel and any distinguishing features of the vehicle, can significantly help the investigation. If the suspect is spotted nearby, police urge residents to call 911 immediately and let officers handle the encounter.
