
A 20-year-old man was left fighting for his life Wednesday afternoon after he was shot in the chest on a Belmont block, according to police. A stretch of East 183rd Street near Hughes Avenue was quickly shut down with crime scene tape as officers and emergency crews swarmed the area.
Officers arrived just after 2 p.m., and EMS rushed the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, News 12 New York reported. Police told the outlet the man had a gunshot wound to the chest, and detectives began canvassing the surrounding streets for witnesses and surveillance footage.
