West Covina is about to get a serious new menudo fix. Mr Menudo Oficial, the local chain built on a once-humble weekend stand, is putting the finishing touches on a full-service restaurant at 327 N. Azusa Avenue and aiming to open its doors this spring.
The team is in inspection mode now, lining up staff, seating, and private-event space as part of the final buildout. If everything clears on schedule, Inland Empire diners could be digging into menudo, birria, and tacos as early as April.
According to What Now Los Angeles, an ABC filing lists the West Covina address, and owner Roger Perez told the outlet the restaurant is "waiting on inspections" with an April opening in sight. The new spot is expected to be a modern, more polished full-service operation with expanded seating and a room set aside for private events. The West Covina launch would bring the brand to four locations.
Menu And The Space
The brand's online menu points to what locals can expect: menudo, tacos, birria, burritos, quesadillas, chilaquiles, and tamales as core staples. The site also emphasizes fresh ingredients and traditional recipes across its three existing restaurants, plus catering and party-tray options that fit neatly with the planned private-events room. Those details come straight from Mr Menudo Oficial.
From A Compton Stall To Multiple Restaurants
Mr Menudo started as a weekend stand-in in Compton, a family story charted by the Los Angeles Times in 2019 that traces the origins to a father-and-son cooking team. Since then, local coverage has followed its evolution into brick-and-mortar locations outside Compton and a reputation for a cleaner, meat-forward bowl of menudo. That rise slots into a broader Los Angeles trend of elevating traditional caldos and birrias, a movement noted by L.A. TACO.
Owner Says "Quality Everything"
"We want to bring good quality Mexican food to the community - quality meats, quality cuts, quality everything," Perez told What Now Los Angeles. He added that the West Covina site should give Inland Empire customers a closer option and said he has his eye on a 24-hour Montebello outpost and another location in Anaheim as part of the brand's continued growth. The exact opening date in West Covina still depends on final inspections and permits.
The new restaurant will sit at 327 N. Azusa Ave in West Covina's retail corridor, joining the chain's Downey shop at 12215 Paramount Blvd. We will update readers once a firm opening date or grand-opening plan is announced.
