Grégoire, the longtime Berkeley takeout staple famous for its ping-pong-ball-sized potato puffs, has officially landed in San Francisco, opening in the Inner Sunset at 1300 9th Ave. The new counter quietly started serving in mid-January and will host its grand opening tomorrow at 11 AM, with promotional giveaways on deck. That means loyal East Bay fans and Golden Gate Park lunch regulars can now grab the signature puffs and buttermilk fried-chicken sandwich without trekking across the bay. The compact shop fills the former Jamba Juice space near Irving Street.
According to KRON4, the opening promo is straightforward: The first 50 customers score free potato puffs with any full-price sandwich or salad, and five lucky orders will hide "golden tickets" that can be redeemed for 10 free puff orders. Mission Local first spotted the soft opening on Jan. 16 and noted that crews had wrapped up renovations on the old Jamba Juice box.
From Berkeley To The Sunset
Chef Grégoire Jacquet launched the original Berkeley counter in the early 2000s, and the Grégoire site notes it has been doing takeout since 2002. The San Francisco expansion surfaced last year in the San Francisco Chronicle, which reported that Jacquet had leased the 1300 Ninth Ave. corner as part of a planned franchise push, backed by a commissary kitchen in Emeryville intended to support additional outposts.
Menu And The Cult Of The Puff
Fans swear by Grégoire's ping-pong-ball potato puffs, crisp on the outside and pillowy inside, often paired with rotating sandwiches and poutine fries. SFGATE has tracked the puffs' cult following, and the restaurant's Instagram has promoted the item as Off The Grid San Francisco's 2025 "Dish of the Year," as noted by KRON4.
Practical Details
The Grégoire Inner Sunset listing gives the address as 1300 9th Ave. and current hours of 11:30 AM to 7 PM, while the original Berkeley counter is still operating at 2109 Cedar St. Expect some lunchtime congestion near Golden Gate Park, and keep an eye on Grégoire's announcements for final grand-opening rules and how to cash in any prizes.
