Today starts off clear and mild around Dallas, with Love Field reporting about 68°F and a southerly breeze already in play. Skies are expected to clear out fully by midday, and the heat will climb fast, so this afternoon will feel noticeably warmer than recent days. If you have outdoor plans, prepare for conditions that are both hot and blustery.
Afternoon Heat And Gusty Winds
Forecasters are calling for mostly sunny skies with a high near 89°F and south winds of 10 to 15 mph, gusting up to 30 mph. According to the National Weather Service Fort Worth, parts of the region, especially near and west of U.S. 281, face an elevated wildfire threat because of above-normal heat, low humidity and breezy winds. At the time of this morning’s update, there were no watches or warnings in effect.
A cold front is expected to move through on Friday, bringing a brief cooldown, a chance for a few light showers Friday evening, and northeast gusts that could reach near 35 mph later tomorrow night.
Fire Safety And What To Do
In this kind of setup, even small fires can spread quickly, so skip any outdoor burning or debris burning today and keep a hose or extinguisher within reach if you are grilling. For practical wildfire-prevention tips and local resources, check the Texas A&M Forest Service.
It is also a good idea to secure loose yard furniture and allow extra time for afternoon drives on exposed routes where the winds will be strongest.
Looking Ahead
Temperatures are expected to rebound into the 80s by Sunday and stay above normal into early next week, so the warm pattern returns quickly after the short-lived cool-down. Keep an eye on local forecasts if you have outdoor events planned later in the week.
