Another wave of staff cuts is rolling through Blue Shield of California, and this time the insurer is trimming jobs at its Sacramento-area hubs in El Dorado Hills and Rancho Cordova. The nonprofit health plan is once again paring back administrative positions at multiple locations across the state.
According to the Sacramento Business Journal, reporter Chris Campbell notes that the latest layoffs are part of a broader statewide reduction. The Journal places the Sacramento-area offices among several sites caught up in this latest round of cuts.
Local offices named
Blue Shield’s own corporate locations page flags an El Dorado Hills campus on Town Center Boulevard and a Rancho Cordova office on Zinfandel Drive as part of its regional footprint. The directory lists the specific addresses as 4203 Town Center Blvd. in El Dorado Hills and 3300 Zinfandel Dr. in Rancho Cordova, and confirms both as official Blue Shield sites in the Sacramento area.
A pattern of reductions
Industry coverage has tracked several previous rounds of job reductions at Blue Shield in recent years, with earlier cuts striking offices in both the Bay Area and the Sacramento region. Reporting from Fierce Healthcare and other outlets shows that the insurer has repeatedly framed the layoffs as part of a continuing effort to bring down administrative costs.
Public filings back up notices
California Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, or WARN, filings include entries tied to the Town Center and Zinfandel Drive locations, creating a public record of earlier workforce actions at those offices. Those notices appear in archived reports maintained by the California Employment Development Department.
What employees have been offered
In earlier rounds, Blue Shield has described transition programs that allow affected workers to remain on the payroll for a limited period while receiving career coaching and help applying for internal openings. Coverage from Becker’s and other industry publications notes that the insurer has provided 90-day windows to pursue roles inside the company, along with skills training and severance benefits for employees who are let go.
