Prince George’s Stadium is getting a serious glow-up. The Chesapeake Baysox and county parks officials have unveiled a slate of fan-focused upgrades in Bowie ahead of the 2026 season, with a new Chesapeake Bay-themed kids zone, a big new video display at the main concourse entrance, improved ADA viewing platforms, refreshed murals and wayfinding, and a tidied-up front plaza. The club is set to welcome fans back for its home opener on April 7, 2026.
New features for families
At the heart of the upgrades is a Chesapeake Bay-themed kids zone designed to keep younger fans busy while the adults keep an eye on the scoreboard. The area includes ADA-accessible activities, a padded surface for smaller children, and the existing carousel. Kids 12 and under can buy wristbands for unlimited attractions, according to Eye On Annapolis.
Out on the concourse, crews added new drink rails and ADA-accessible platforms to improve comfort and sightlines. Wayfinding signs have been updated and Baysox murals now pop up throughout the ballpark, giving the place a fresher, more cohesive look, the outlet reports.
Part of a larger modernization push
These fan-facing touches are just one piece of a broader $50 million modernization first announced in January 2025. County and team officials tapped Gilbane, with design partner EwingCole, to lead the design-build effort, according to MiLB.
The investment is also intended to help the park meet Major League Baseball’s Player Development License standards, a set of facility requirements that has triggered upgrades at minor-league parks across the country, Baseball America reports.
Events and the season ahead
The spruced-up stadium will not just host Baysox games. The renovated park is on the schedule for the Banana Ball World Tour on July 31 and Aug. 1, 2026, a two-night special that organizers say will highlight the new fan amenities, according to The BayNet.
The Baysox open the 2026 campaign on the road on April 2 before heading back to Bowie. Local fans get their first in-person look at the upgrades at the Prince George’s Stadium home opener on April 7, with first pitch slated for 6:35 p.m., per Eye On Annapolis.
Why it matters
Local and team leaders are framing the work as both a quality-of-life boost and an economic play. County officials say the renovations blend “modern innovations with the timeless tradition of baseball” and support the agency’s “Live More, Play More” mission, while Attain Sports’ leadership has described the project as a long-term commitment to Bowie and the greater Chesapeake region, according to M-NCPPC.
