A new hideaway for readers and tea lovers has quietly slipped into Northeast San Antonio. Honey Flutters Teas & Books is now open in Bracken Village, pairing a classic afternoon tea service with a handpicked bookstore and a slate of community events.
According to Honey Flutters' website, the shop sits at 18771 FM 2252, Building 23 inside Bracken Village and bills itself as a home for "books, brews & banter." Online, the shop posts its storefront menu alongside contemporary fiction picks and curated tea-and-book gift boxes.
The store held its grand opening last Sunday, owner Melissa Swift told Community Impact. Swift said she walked away from the corporate world to launch Honey Flutters, calling the opening "a whole new chapter" in her life.
Programs and community focus
To make the space more than just a place to grab a drink and browse, Swift has lined up a monthly book club and weekly English tutoring sessions. The next book club meeting is set for March 31, with both in person and Zoom options, according to the outlet. "We really want to focus on welcoming everyone and making people of all ages interested in reading again," Swift told Community Impact.
Menu, books and boxes
The tea list runs from familiar green and black teas to international blends, and the shop pairs those drinks with pastries and smaller savory bites for a traditional afternoon tea experience, according to Honey Flutters' website. Customers can also pick up themed tea-and-book gift boxes or sign up for monthly "Hive" book boxes curated by the store.
How it fits San Antonio's indie scene
Honey Flutters joins a small but growing wave of independent bookstores across San Antonio, as neighborhood shops lean into events, clubs and community programming. Book Nerd in Castle Hills, for example, marked its own grand opening last year, a trend highlighted by Shelf Awareness.
Honey Flutters is tucked behind the big red barn at Bracken Village, and the center's directory lists the shop at Building 23. For current hours, menus and details on upcoming events, the shop points visitors to its website and social media pages.
