A routine midday ride on a northbound B61 in Carroll Gardens turned violent when a 78-year-old passenger was beaten on board, and police say they are still hunting for the attacker. Detectives on Tuesday released photos of a man they believe carried out the Feb. 21 assault near Court Street and West Ninth Street at about 12:35 p.m. Medics took the victim to Methodist Hospital in stable condition after he was struck multiple times, officials said. The assailant got off the bus and fled on foot, and investigators are now asking the public to help put a name to the face in the images.
Police release images and suspect description
According to New York Daily News, the NYPD says the violence followed an argument between the victim and another rider, ending with the 78-year-old repeatedly punched in the face. The outlet reports that police described the suspect as last seen wearing a dark jacket, dark pants and dark shoes, and that investigators distributed still images to the public in hopes someone recognizes him. Officers told reporters they are reviewing surveillance video and canvassing the area around Court Street and West Ninth Street as the search continues.

Authorities say anyone who was on the B61 around noon on Feb. 21 and who recorded or witnessed the confrontation should step forward. As of now, police have not announced any arrests in the case.
