The NYPD is grieving the death of Police Officer Sorffly Davius, a Brooklyn cop and Army National Guard officer who died Saturday while deployed to Kuwait in support of U.S. military operations, the department announced.
Davius suffered what the NYPD described as a medical episode while overseas, where he was serving in support of U.S. operations in the region. He had been a member of the department since 2014 and was assigned to the 79th Precinct in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
In a message posted by NYPD News on X and shared by Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch, the department said, "The NYPD mourns the loss of Police Officer Sorffly Davius," noting that he died as a result of a medical episode while deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Epic Fury. The post also stated that Davius served with the 42nd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army National Guard and had risen to the rank of major.
What Operation Epic Fury Involves
Operation Epic Fury is a U.S. Central Command campaign that began in late February and includes strikes and other missions across the region, with forces staging from bases in and around Kuwait, according to U.S. Central Command. CENTCOM materials describe Epic Fury as involving both air and maritime components. The NYPD identified Davius' deployment as support for those operations.

According to the department's announcement on X, Davius joined the NYPD in 2014 and was assigned to the 79th Precinct in Bedford-Stuyvesant. The city's official directory lists the 79th Precinct's address as 263 Tompkins Avenue, per the NYC Green Book. The NYPD post also highlighted his parallel military career with the 42nd Infantry Division and his rank of major.

Commissioner Tisch and other department leaders publicly offered condolences to Davius' family, colleagues, and loved ones in the X post, saying the NYPD stands with them in mourning his loss. As of Sunday, the department had not released further details about memorial or funeral arrangements.
