A New York rapper who performs as Bentley Bugz was brought into federal court in Brooklyn this week, accused of trafficking and brutally abusing a 16-year-old girl. Jimmy "Bentley Bugz" Francois, 37, was arrested in Miami, then extradited to New York, where prosecutors say he now faces a slate of serious federal charges. The accusations are laid out in court filings that authorities say include photos and video they claim capture some of the abuse.
According to PIX11, Francois was taken into custody in Miami and flown to New York this week. He is expected to be arraigned in Brooklyn federal court on Friday. Prosecutors have charged him with sex trafficking, sexual exploitation of a child and interstate prostitution, authorities say. Court documents allege he forced the teenager to have sex with multiple clients in New York City and in several other states.
Allegations Detailed In Graphic Court Filings
Prosecutors and court filings describe a video that allegedly shows Francois striking the girl and hurling degrading remarks at her while he allegedly orders her to "break your bones." Authorities say sexually explicit images and at least one video linked to Francois’s iCloud account were used in online prostitution ads, and that one clip allegedly records him directing the teen during sexual acts.
"The defendant's exploitation and trafficking of an innocent teenager can only be described as depravity in its most vile form," HSI New York’s Michael Alfonso said, according to PIX11.
Charges And Federal Legal Context
Prosecutors have brought federal counts that, if proven, fall under statutes including 18 U.S.C. § 1591, which covers sex trafficking of children, along with related charges for sexual exploitation and interstate prostitution. Per the U.S. Department of Justice, sex trafficking of minors is a federal crime that can carry lengthy prison terms and additional penalties. The department’s citizen guide explains that these laws cover conduct such as recruiting, advertising and transporting minors for commercial sexual exploitation. When alleged trafficking crosses state lines, federal investigators often lean on digital forensics and coordination among multiple jurisdictions.
Eastern District Cracks Down On Sex Trafficking
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York has been pressing a series of high-profile sex trafficking prosecutions, particularly those involving children and multiple victims. Recent cases have resulted in long prison sentences and have highlighted joint investigations with Homeland Security Investigations, the FBI and local police departments.
One such case led to sentences ranging from 25 to 35 years for four Queens-based sex traffickers, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of New York.
Francois is scheduled to appear for arraignment Friday at the Brooklyn federal courthouse. It is not yet known whether his attorneys will seek bail or release. The investigation remains active, and prosecutors say they plan to disclose additional details at the hearing.
