A late-Thursday crash on a northeast Houston stretch of Woodforest Boulevard is now a homicide investigation after police found a young driver dead in a car riddled with bullet holes.
Houston officers discovered the wreck in the 12400 block of Woodforest Boulevard after the vehicle struck a barrier. What started as a crash call quickly turned into something far more serious, and homicide detectives were brought in as investigators began trying to piece together how a shooting and a collision ended in the same spot.
When officers arrived Thursday night, they found several bullet holes in the vehicle and recovered a single spent shell casing near the car, according to KHOU. Police said the car had crashed into a barrier and that first responders pronounced the driver dead at the scene. No identity has been released, and investigators reported no suspect or motive so far.
What investigators say
Investigators told KHOU they believe the shooting may have happened somewhere else before the crash. Police described the victim as a young adult male. Homicide detectives are processing the scene and checking whether any surveillance cameras or other agencies may have captured key moments leading up to the impact.
A pattern of bullet-struck cars
The case adds to a troubling pattern of vehicles turning up shot on local roads. In February, deputies reported a car found with multiple bullet strikes after a crash in northwest Harris County, as reported by a car found with multiple bullet strikes, underscoring how investigators sometimes have to trace a rolling crime scene back across several miles.
How to help
Anyone with information about the Woodforest Boulevard crash or the moments leading up to it is asked to contact the Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477). Authorities say tips and surveillance footage can be crucial for retracing a vehicle’s path and identifying possible suspects.
