Cincinnati homicide investigators packed into an Avondale apartment building early Friday after a 911 caller reported a woman had been shot and left lying in a hallway. Multiple police and fire units shut down the 700 block of Ridgeway Avenue shortly after 6:30 a.m., and officers immediately began life-saving efforts on the victim at the scene.
Police confirmed to FOX19 that officers found a female shooting victim and were performing CPR. They also requested a supervisor from the Criminal Investigation Section as homicide detectives moved into the building. The outlet reported that investigators had already been working for hours overnight in Winton Hills after a fatal shooting on Craft Street late Thursday, and crews continued to hold the Avondale scene while detectives combed through the apartment complex.
Ridgeway corridor has seen repeated violence
Ridgeway Avenue has been a trouble spot in Avondale for years, with deadly and high-profile shootings prompting stepped-up police patrols and city scrutiny of certain apartment properties. As WLWT reported, officers have responded to multiple shootings on Ridgeway in recent years, and the city has inspected problem buildings after gunfire incidents.
Investigation ongoing
Police have not released the victim's identity or said whether any suspects are in custody. FOX19 said its crew remained on scene and that the report is still developing. Cincinnati police did not immediately provide further details to the station.
