A Doral drug investigation that started with a February tip has ended with a 41-year-old man behind bars, accused of pushing fentanyl-laced MDMA pills near a local school after what officials describe as a months-long probe.

Agents moved in on March 26, recovering more than 15 grams of the tainted pills and a firearm at the suspect’s home, according to a press release from the FDLE.

Investigators say Eddie Antonio Muniz was arrested by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s South Florida S.A.F.E. Task Force and now faces multiple felony counts. Those include two counts of fentanyl trafficking, an armed-fentanyl trafficking charge, and counts of possession of fentanyl and cocaine with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a school, as detailed by FDLE. Muniz is also charged with unlawful use of a two-way communications device.

He was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Detention Center, and the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office is handling prosecution, according to the agency.

The investigation kicked off after a tip in February 2025, and in the weeks that followed, investigators reportedly watched several suspected drug transactions, the Tampa Free Press reports. That outlet notes that Homeland Security Investigations and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisted FDLE during the operation. Officials say the probe is still active while prosecutors comb through the evidence.

Search Warrant Nets Fentanyl-Laced MDMA And A Gun

According to FDLE, agents served a search warrant at Muniz’s Doral residence on March 26. Inside, they say they found more than 15 grams of MDMA that field-tested positive for fentanyl, along with a firearm.

The agency notes that the South Florida S.A.F.E. Task Force pulls in detectives from multiple local departments, including Doral, Hialeah, Medley, Miami and Florida International University police, among others. FDLE described Muniz’s arrest as the culmination of months of work and said investigators are still trying to determine whether additional suspects or a wider distribution network were involved.

School-Zone Charges, Possible Enhancements And What Comes Next

Several of the charges allege drug activity within 1,000 feet of a school, which opens the door to enhanced penalties under Florida law. The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office has taken over prosecution of the case, the Tampa Free Press notes.

Local reporting says investigators monitored Muniz for weeks before executing the search warrant at his Doral home and that the charges include unlawful use of a communications device to facilitate criminal activity. Prosecutors will now decide what formal charges and possible enhancements to pursue as the investigation continues.

Muniz remains in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Detention Center while law enforcement keeps working the case. Anyone with information is urged to contact FDLE or local police.
