A 24-year-old Hickory Hills woman is facing charges after Cook County sheriff's investigators say she sent sexually explicit photos and videos to a juvenile and to other adults, and at times followed those messages with threats and racist language. The Cook County Sheriff's Police opened the investigation after a report on Feb. 9, and say the arrest was made earlier this month by units that investigate online child exploitation. Prosecutors filed charges, including distribution of harmful material to a minor and non-consensual dissemination of private sexual images, and the defendant was ordered released after an initial court appearance. The case is now pending in Cook County criminal court.
According to the Cook County Sheriff's Office, the suspect is identified as Megan Chladek of Hickory Hills. Investigators say the material included images of her engaging in sex acts with another adult that were shared with a juvenile and with other adults. The office says the special victims investigation began after the Feb. 9 report, that Chladek was taken into custody on March 12 by the Special Victims Division's Cyber Trafficking and Internet Crimes Against Children units, and that formal charges were filed March 14. The post notes she was ordered released following a March 15 initial court appearance at the Leighton courthouse.
Allegations and investigators' notes
"The depicted acts were consensual," the sheriff's post says, but investigators allege another individual did not grant permission for their images to be shared and that some of the messages included threats and racist content, per the Cook County Sheriff's Office. The office also said the images and videos were distributed to both a juvenile and other adults as part of the alleged conduct. These remain allegations, and no conviction has been recorded.
Legal context and possible penalties
Under Illinois law, non-consensual dissemination of private sexual images is a criminal offense; 720 ILCS 5/11-23.5 classifies that conduct as a Class 4 felony. The distribution of harmful material to a minor is governed by 720 ILCS 5/11-21 and can be charged as a Class A misdemeanor or higher depending on the circumstances. Both statutes include penalty and forfeiture provisions, and anyone charged under them is entitled to legal process and the presumption of innocence.
Where the case is being heard
The matter is listed in Cook County's criminal division at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse, which handles felony and pretrial matters in Chicago. The courthouse's location is 2600 S. California Ave., per the Circuit Court of Cook County. Court filings will determine the next steps in the prosecution.
The charges against the defendant are allegations, and she is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. Officials have not released additional details beyond the sheriff's statement.
