A busy Saturday evening at Linda Vista Recreation Center turned tense when San Diego police say a woman harassed visitors, refused officers’ commands and ultimately bit an officer on the hand before being taken into custody. The officer was treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening pain, swelling and an abrasion to his left hand, according to police.
Police response
According to Fox 5 San Diego, officers were called to the recreation center around 6 p.m. last Saturday after reports that a woman was disturbing people at the park. Police found her near the skate park and say she refused to follow commands, resisted and was taken to the ground. During that struggle, she allegedly bit an officer on the left hand. He later went to a local hospital for treatment.
Where it happened
The Linda Vista Recreation Center at 7064 Levant St. is a neighborhood hub with a skate park and multiple courts, according to the City of San Diego. The site hosts youth programs and city events and sits along several bus routes, which helps make the area around the skate park a regular gathering spot.
Charges and witnesses
Fox 5 San Diego reports that witnesses said the woman had been harassing people and making racist comments before officers arrived. Paramedics evaluated her at the scene. Police then booked her into jail on multiple charges, including delaying or obstructing officers, resisting officers with violence and committing a felony while out on bail. Her name has not been released, and police say the investigation is still ongoing.
What’s next
Police said no other injuries were reported and that investigators are continuing to review what happened at the recreation center. The arrest follows other violent incidents at the same site in recent years, including a 2019 fatal shooting, as reported by Times of San Diego. Officials have not released additional details, and anyone with information is asked to contact the San Diego Police Department.
