Federal agents say a Coral Springs man showed up at a neighborhood drugstore expecting to film foot-fetish videos with a teenage boy, and instead found an FBI sting waiting for him.

The suspect, identified in court papers as 25-year-old William Gangler, was arrested over the weekend near a Coral Springs CVS after an undercover operation in which an agent posed online as a 15-year-old boy, according to a federal criminal complaint. Investigators say the case is the latest development in a pattern of tips and local reports about alleged sexual exploitation tied to Gangler stretching back several years.

According to Local10, a 21-year-old told federal agents in a March 5 interview that he was first contacted online by Gangler when he was about 12 or 13. The man said Gangler offered him money to make videos focused on the youth’s feet, and that on one occasion he was paid $600. The complaint also cites Coral Springs police reports from 2017 and 2021 and a 2019 Instagram tip that alleged Gangler was sharing child sexual-abuse material, according to the outlet. Agents say they connected those earlier reports to more recent social media accounts advertising sexual content, which led to the undercover chats.

Federal Statutes Cited In The Complaint

Prosecutors are flagging some of the heftier tools in the federal code. The complaint references laws that make it a crime to use interstate commerce, including the internet, to persuade or entice anyone under 18 into sexual activity, a charge commonly brought under 18 U.S.C. § 2422. Federal statutes also prohibit producing or possessing images or videos of minors in sexual contexts, including under 18 U.S.C. § 2251 and related sections. Those provisions can carry long prison terms when a case is brought in federal court.

How Investigators Say The Sting Played Out

Investigators say the undercover FBI contact arranged a meeting at the CVS at 3401 Coral Springs Drive. According to the complaint, Gangler arrived shortly before 1:30 p.m., expecting to meet the minor described in the chats. After the arrest, authorities say they searched his bedroom and found several recording devices, including tripods and monopods, along with “sexually explicit printed photographs of prepubescent minors,” as reported by Local10.

The station reports that Gangler invoked his Miranda rights at the time of his arrest. He was scheduled for an initial appearance in federal court in Fort Lauderdale. Court records cited in the coverage show he was being held at Broward County’s Paul Rein Detention Facility on behalf of the U.S. Marshals Service.

Local Enforcement, National Effort

South Florida authorities have been hammering away at similar cases for years. The South Florida ICAC task force keeps a running log of local arrests and stings involving alleged child exploitation and online enticement. Nationally, the Department of Justice says multi-agency operations under Project Safe Childhood and related initiatives have led to hundreds of arrests in recent crackdowns on child sexual exploitation. More detail is laid out in a Department of Justice release summarizing one such sweep.

What’s Next

According to the complaint, Gangler faces potential federal counts that, if formally filed by prosecutors and returned by a grand jury, could bring lengthy prison terms and mandatory restitution. The case is set to move forward in the Southern District of Florida’s federal court in Fort Lauderdale. Investigators are asking anyone with information related to the case to contact the FBI tip line or local law enforcement.
