Houston’s so-called “coverall crook” is keeping the FBI busy after three bank robberies in roughly two weeks, all inside neighborhood grocery stores and all pulled off without a single shot fired. The FBI’s Houston office says the same man is behind two holdups at a First Convenience Bank branch inside a Food Town grocery store and another at a Woodforest Bank branch inside a Kroger. Surveillance images of the suspect have been circulated, and agents are asking for the public’s help to track him down, as reported by Click2Houston.
According to Click2Houston, the first and second robberies hit the First Convenience Bank inside the Food Town at 5367 Antoine Drive at about 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21 and again at roughly 9:50 a.m. on Thursday, March 5. The third happened at the Woodforest Bank inside the Kroger at 12434 State Highway 249 at about 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3. In each case, investigators say the man handed a teller a threatening note demanding cash. In one incident, a plastic bag holding the stolen money reportedly split open in the parking lot, and the suspect hurried to scoop up the spilled bills before taking off on a bicycle.
The FBI believes the robber is in his mid-50s, about 5′9″ tall with a medium build, a graying goatee and thick eyebrows. Agents say that during the first robbery he wore a red hooded sweatshirt over a green undershirt with blue jeans. For the later two jobs, he allegedly switched to dark gray coveralls with an unknown logo on the chest and back, and in the third he added a baseball cap under the hood for good measure.
