A New York City man is facing serious felony charges after prosecutors say he raped a woman who was "physically helpless" aboard his boat while it was docked at the New Rochelle Municipal Marina.
The alleged assault took place on Aug. 4, 2025. Prosecutors say the woman woke up during the attack, fled the vessel and reported what happened, triggering an investigation that led to the man’s arrest on March 24, 2026.
What Prosecutors Allege
In a statement to the New York Post, the Westchester County District Attorney's Office said the woman was incapable of giving consent because she was "physically helpless." The office identified the defendant as 45-year-old Carlton Bryan and said it plans to pursue the case aggressively.
Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace told the paper that "sexual activity without consent is a crime, one that is vigorously prosecuted by my office," and she commended the woman for reporting the incident promptly.
Where the Alleged Assault Took Place
According to prosecutors, the incident occurred on a boat docked at the city-owned New Rochelle Municipal Marina on Echo Bay, the city's main public harbor. The marina lists more than 300 slips and moorings along with services such as fuel and pump-out. Additional details are available on the City of New Rochelle website.
Arraignment, Bail and Next Court Date
Bryan was arrested on March 24, 2026, and arraigned in Westchester County, where he pleaded not guilty, according to the New York Post. Judge Robert Prisco set bail at $5,000 cash or a $10,000 bond. Court records indicate Bryan posted bail and is scheduled to return to court on April 7, 2026.
What Happens Next
Prosecutors say the investigation remains active and that additional pretrial hearings are expected before any trial date is set. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Westchester County District Attorney's Office or local police.
