Dallas is waking up to clear skies and about 57°F at Dallas Love Field early today, with a quick warm-up locked in. Forecasters expect highs near 82°F later today, along with increasingly gusty southerly winds into the afternoon. By tomorrow, the whole setup flips as a strong cold front barrels through, dragging in much colder air and powerful north winds. Ahead of that blast, a Fire Weather Watch is up for parts of North and Central Texas thanks to those gusty, dry conditions.
Afternoon Warm-Up And Gusts
Under sunny skies, afternoon temperatures are set to climb into the low 80s, with south winds of 5–15 mph and gusts that could hit 30 mph in exposed areas by late day. The most noticeable gusts will show up on bridges, open highways and hilltops, where driving could get wobbly for high-profile vehicles and a bit dicey for cyclists.
Sunday Wind Shift And Fire Weather Watch
A sharp cold front arrives tomorrow, flipping the wind to the north-northwest in a hurry. Sustained winds are forecast at 25–35 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 50 mph across parts of the metro area. Relative humidity is expected to drop into the mid-teens to mid-20s along and west of I-35, which is why a Fire Weather Watch is posted for tomorrow afternoon and evening. See the watch details from the National Weather Service Fort Worth.
How To Prepare
Before Sunday’s blast, secure loose outdoor furniture, pull in trash cans, and skip any outdoor burning Sunday afternoon and evening; in these gusty, dry conditions, any fire that starts could spread quickly. Parker County has already put a countywide burn ban in place.
Looking Ahead
Sunday night and Monday will feel like a different season, with lows dropping into the 20s and 30s and afternoon highs near 54°F on Monday, while the blustery conditions hang on into Monday morning. The chill will not last long, though, as temperatures rebound by midweek with a quick warm-up back into the 70s and 80s later in the week.
