A man was found shot to death inside a car yesterday on Lucas Drive in Dallas, and police are now treating the case as a homicide.
Officers responded to a shooting call in the 2800 block of Lucas Drive around 2:55 a.m. When they arrived, they discovered the man inside a vehicle, already dead from an apparent gunshot wound. His identity had not yet been released as detectives processed the scene and the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office prepared to assist.
What the police released
In a preliminary statement tied to case log 28 040317-2026 28, police said they located the victim inside a vehicle at the scene, and that the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office will help identify him, according to the Dallas Police Department. No suspect information has been released, and detectives are maintaining an open, active investigation.
Where this fits in citywide trends
Every killing hits families and neighbors hard, even as overall violence has been trending down. Dallas recorded 141 homicides in 2025, the lowest total since 2015, police told the City Council earlier this year, according to The Dallas Morning News. Officials have credited targeted enforcement and data-driven strategies for the improvement, even while isolated, deadly incidents like this one continue to surface.
