Hundreds of bundled-up shoppers lined the sidewalk in the predawn chill on Friday, March 13, 2026, eager to be among the first inside St. George’s long-awaited second Costco. The new warehouse, in the Desert Color area on the city’s south side, officially joins the membership club’s original north-side location and had its fuel pumps running even before the retail floor opened for business.
Opening day scenes
Lines snaked outside the entrance well before opening time as early birds queued up for opening-day bargains and a first walk-through of the new layout, according to The Salt Lake Tribune. Tribune photographer Mark Eddington captured images of the packed crowd waiting at the doors on March 13, a turnout that capped months of neighborhood chatter and anticipation over when St. George’s second warehouse would finally open.
What Costco says
On the official "S St George Warehouse" page, Costco lists the new store at 4700 South Desert Color Parkway with an opening date of 03/13/2026. The listing notes that the gas station at the site is already open and highlights familiar services including a pharmacy, food court and tire center. Costco also continues to show the original St. George warehouse at 835 N. 3050 E, confirming this Desert Color spot as the city’s second location. Local members now have two warehouses in town for bulk groceries along with pharmacy and optical services.
How the project moved forward
City planning records identify the development as "Costco - South St. George," which went before the St. George Planning Commission in January 2025, according to a public notice on Utah.gov. The grand opening comes on the heels of a run of population and job growth that has kept St. George on national lists of fast-growing small metro areas, a trend local leaders have cited as a key reason national retailers are moving in, as reported by The Salt Lake Tribune. City officials have pitched projects like Costco as another sign of that economic momentum.
What this means for shoppers
For residents on the south side, the new warehouse offers a closer stop for bulk runs, plus a second set of fuel pumps for daily commuters. The added capacity could also take some pressure off the older northern location during peak hours. Inside, shoppers will find the usual Costco lineup — pharmacy, optical services, tire center and the ever-popular food court — now split between two St. George warehouses.
