An early morning in Anacortes turned deadly on Tuesday when two people were shot and killed, authorities said. Officers found the victims in the 1400 block of K Avenue just before 6:30 a.m., according to initial reports.

Anacortes Police Department officers had responded to reports of gunfire and discovered two people dead at the scene. By midmorning, investigators had announced no arrests and said there was no ongoing threat to the public, according to FOX 13 Seattle.

"We will release more information once APD detectives have completed that investigation," APD community service officer Brent Lindquist told FOX 13 Seattle. Police said officers stayed on K Avenue while detectives processed evidence and went door to door looking for witnesses.

The Anacortes School District asked drivers to steer clear of the area while K Avenue between 12th and 17th streets remained closed during the investigation. Cascadia Daily News reported that the district shared the closure notice on social media.

How Unusual Killings Are In Anacortes

Homicides are relatively rare in the city. Earlier coverage of a 2024 killing noted that such violent cases stand out in Anacortes' recent history. KIRO 7 reported at the time on how that 2024 case was considered unusual for the town.

What Investigators Are Saying So Far

Anacortes Police detectives are continuing their investigation and say they will share more details once their work is further along, Lindquist told reporters, according to local coverage. This story will be updated as authorities release additional information.
