A $5,000 reward is now on the table in Daytona Beach after a man was shot and killed and a woman was wounded near a busy neighborhood intersection, and police say the gunman is still on the loose.

Daytona Beach police announced Thursday that the cash reward is being offered for information in the shooting, which happened March 7 near the intersection of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard and Pearl Street, authorities say. Detectives describe the case as an active homicide investigation and say the suspect has not yet been identified.

As reported by ClickOrlando, the reward was announced to encourage tips that could lead to an arrest. The announcement comes 12 days after the March 7 shooting.

What police say

Officers who responded found an adult man with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to a hospital and later died. An adult woman who was nearby arrived with a graze wound and is expected to recover, WFTV reported. Detectives said they believe the shooting was an isolated incident and do not think it is connected to Bike Week activity in the area.

How to help

Investigators are banking on neighborhood video and word of mouth to crack the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-TIPS (8477). Tips may be eligible for the $5,000 reward, per ClickOrlando, and authorities are urging residents to check any doorbell, dashcam or phone video that might show the shooter or the vehicle involved.
