Yesterday, in South Dallas, a burst of gunfire on South Fitzhugh Avenue left one person dead and several others wounded, according to police. Officers rushed to the 4500 block of South Fitzhugh, where they found multiple victims scattered at the scene.
As reported by WFAA, one person was pronounced dead and several more were injured when officers arrived. At least two of the wounded were taken to local hospitals, and a suspect was brought to Dallas police headquarters for questioning. Family members at the scene told reporters that an uncle had been in the car with his nephews when the shooting started.
Investigation underway
Dallas police have launched an active investigation and detectives spent the evening canvassing the area for witnesses and combing the street for evidence. The block sits in the South Central and Southeast patrol divisions, areas that have logged hundreds of violent offense reports in recent CompStat tallies, according to the Dallas Police Department CompStat.
Officials have not released the names of the victims, nor have they disclosed a possible motive. The case remains open and investigators say more details will be shared as they sort through witness accounts and collected evidence.
