A quiet Wednesday morning in Hialeah turned violent when a man was shot and killed near an apartment complex along West 56th Street, just east of the Palmetto Expressway, according to police. Neighbors said they heard what sounded like up to 10 gunshots ripping through the area as officers in tactical gear swept the complex and surrounding streets.
Detectives later found a male victim who had been shot and pronounced him dead at the scene. Police evacuated nearby units while they searched for the shooter. As of Wednesday, Hialeah police said the suspect was still at large.
According to WSVN, Hialeah Police received multiple 911 calls from residents reporting the gunfire. 7Skyforce aerial footage showed officers converging on the complex at about 9:15 a.m. Detectives confirmed they had located a man who had been shot and that he was pronounced dead at the scene. The station also reported that tipsters may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
How to report tips
The Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers program accepts anonymous tips by phone at 305-471-TIPS (8477), online at CrimeStoppers305.com, or through the P3 mobile app, the organization says. Investigators are asking anyone with video or information about the shooting to come forward. Tips can be submitted without giving your name, and authorities said rewards may be available for information that results in an arrest.
Local context
This killing adds to a string of violent incidents that have rattled parts of Hialeah this year. In January, a shooting outside La Lunita Cafeteria was captured on surveillance video, according to NBC 6. Residents have told local reporters that repeated episodes of gunfire have heightened anxiety in some neighborhoods as police work their cases.
Despite the tension, investigators said this latest violence appears contained. "This appears to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community," they said, a statement first reported by WSVN. Police said they plan to release more details as the investigation progresses and again urged residents to share any footage or information through Crime Stoppers.
