A motorcyclist was shot and killed after a law enforcement pursuit that ended on Interstate 10 in Kerr County on Wednesday evening, according to officials. The incident began when a deputy tried to pull over a motorcycle rider who refused to stop, triggering a multi-agency chase involving deputies from both Kerr and Gillespie counties. The pursuit wrapped up at about 6 p.m.
When the motorcycle finally came to a stop, authorities say the rider got off the bike, pulled out a handgun, and pointed it at a deputy. The deputy then opened fire, KEYE reported. Officials said the deputy immediately tried to provide life-saving aid, but the Gillespie County Sheriff's Office confirmed the rider was pronounced dead at the scene. The deputy was not injured. Investigators also told reporters the motorcycle had been reported stolen out of Canada.
Investigation underway
The investigation has now been handed over to Texas DPS, which is taking the lead on reviewing what happened and collecting evidence. State investigators will work with local agencies as they assess the shooting and determine whether any additional action is warranted. So far, authorities have not released the rider's name or any information about potential charges that might have been filed.
