A late-night crash turned a busy Ormond Beach artery into a crime scene Monday, as state troopers investigated a deadly wreck that shut down westbound lanes of West Granada Boulevard and brought traffic to a crawl well into Tuesday morning.
The collision happened around 9:30 p.m., according to authorities, and quickly backed up drivers along the corridor while emergency crews and investigators worked the scene.
As reported by WFTV, the crash occurred near West Granada Boulevard (State Road 40) and Booth Road. Westbound lanes were closed between Booth Road and Tymber Creek Road while troopers documented the scene and cleared debris.
A stretch with recent serious crashes
This part of SR-40, just west of I-95, is a busy commercial strip that has seen more than its share of serious crashes in recent months. In February, troopers said a pedestrian was killed near the same intersection.

The Florida Highway Patrol's website carries a live feed of traffic crashes, lane closures, and travel alerts for drivers trying to navigate around scenes like Monday’s wreck.
So far, investigators have not released details about the victim or what they believe caused the crash, and troopers are asking anyone with information to get in touch with authorities.
