Driver Contacts Investigators After Fatal Crash, Deputies Say

The Harris County Sheriff's Office later included the case in its traffic releases and noted that the driver involved contacted investigators after the crash. Deputies say their investigation remains ongoing.
Deadly Pattern On Houston Freeways
Pedestrian deaths along Houston-area freeways are a recurring problem, often turning fatal because of high speeds and limited places to cross. A Houston Chronicle investigation found the region records more than 100 walking and cycling deaths a year and reported that many of those fatalities happen along interstate corridors where people attempt risky crossings or become stranded. Advocates in that reporting pointed to road design, gaps in crossings and poor lighting as key factors, trends and safety concerns the Houston Chronicle documented.
Deputies Seek Witnesses To Fatal Strike
Authorities have not released the victim's identity, pending notification of next of kin. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact the Harris County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS, according to the sheriff’s office.
