On what neighbors say is usually a quiet Eastmark block, a Mesa mother of seven was shot and killed on a neighbor’s front doorstep Saturday morning, according to her family. Relatives gathered in the East Valley neighborhood to grieve while detectives with the Mesa Police Department launched an investigation into the fatal confrontation.
Officers responded to the area near the intersection of E. Kinetic Drive and S. Reliance Way and found an adult with a gunshot wound who was later pronounced dead at the scene, according to FOX 10 Phoenix. Mesa police said the case remains under investigation and that they have not yet released the identity of the person who died.
Family's account
Relatives say the victim’s husband told them the shooting followed an altercation on Saturday morning and that he directly accused a neighbor of pulling the trigger. “He shot my wife,” the husband said, according to FOX 10 Phoenix. Neighbors who went to the suspected shooter’s home say he refused to talk when they tried to speak with him.
Where it happened
The deadly encounter unfolded near Ray Road and Inspirian Parkway, in the Eastmark area on Mesa’s eastern edge. Eastmark is a relatively new, family-oriented master-planned community with parks and recent housing developments, according to neighborhood profiles. Livabl notes that Inspirian Parkway sits at the heart of the development.
Investigation status
Mesa police have not announced any arrests or potential charges and say the inquiry is still active. Family members have been cooperating with investigators while the wider community waits for more details about what exactly led up to the gunfire on the porch.
Community reaction
Neighbors described the block as usually quiet and said they were stunned that a deadly shooting happened on a front porch in broad daylight. The family is now planning memorial arrangements and has asked anyone with information to contact Mesa police, according to family statements shared with local reporters.
