A 23-year-old Moreno Valley woman died Tuesday afternoon after what authorities describe as a physical altercation with a family member inside a home on Woodlark Lane, prompting a suspicious-death investigation by Riverside County sheriff's detectives.
Deputies responding to the residence in the 14000 block of Woodlark Lane found the woman unresponsive, and paramedics were unable to revive her despite life-saving efforts. The case has since been handed to the Riverside County Sheriff's Central Homicide Unit as detectives work to piece together what happened.
What investigators say
At about 3:22 p.m. Tuesday, deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff's Station were dispatched to the Woodlark Lane address and found 23-year-old Elana Davis unresponsive and not breathing, according to a Riverside County Sheriff's Office news release.
Paramedics tried life-saving measures at the scene, but Davis was pronounced dead, the release states. The department listed the file number as MV260760283 and said investigators from the Central Homicide Unit had assumed the case.
Preliminary findings
Deputies learned that Davis had been involved in a physical fight with a family member before she became unresponsive, according to the sheriff's office.
"During the altercation, she lost consciousness and stopped breathing," the release says. No arrests have been made, and authorities say the investigation remains ongoing. Officials have declined to release additional details while detectives follow leads.
