Charlotte is waking up to a mostly cloudy, muggy start with temperatures hovering near 64°F. Patchy fog is expected to hang around for the 7 to 10 a.m. commute, then give way to partly sunny skies and a balmy afternoon high close to 79°F. A few showers and isolated thunderstorms could pop up tonight, with a better shot at rain on Sunday.
Morning Fog And The Commute
That patchy fog between about 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. may cut visibility on low-lying roads and along major routes, so it is worth budgeting a few extra minutes for the breakfast-hour drive. Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Greenville–Spartanburg expect the fog to burn off by mid-morning as light winds help mix the air.
Late-Day Storm Risk
Saturday evening carries a slight chance of showers and a few isolated thunderstorms, but Sunday is shaping up as the day with more consistent rain. Forecasters call for rain to be likely from roughly 9 a.m. through about 5 p.m. Sunday, with wind gusts reaching into the low 20s mph and only a few tenths of an inch of rain for most neighborhoods. Any storm cells that do organize could bring brief heavy downpours and some gusty winds, so it is smart to have a backup plan for outdoor plans.
Weekend Plans And What To Bring
Heading outside? Pack a light waterproof layer and make sure lightweight patio furniture or decor is secured against those gusts. Temperatures stay unseasonably warm, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s through midweek, so expect a humid, springlike feel. Looking Ahead
Later next week, a cold front could bring a round of stronger, more organized storms along with a cooldown by Friday. If you have events on the calendar, keep an eye on updated forecasts. We will share more details if the timing or coverage of showers changes.
