Covington is getting a new taqueria, and it is moving into a very familiar address. Tacos Awiwis, a fresh concept from Habs Hospitality Group, is set to open in the former Lee’s Hamburgers spot at 104 Lake Drive, unit 7. There is no firm opening date yet, but the team is already dangling a pretty loud teaser: two free tacos per guest for the first 100 customers, for a total of 200 tacos on day one, as per WhatNow.
According to WhatNow, the project surfaced in a liquor-license filing that lists the Lake Drive address as the new home for Tacos Awiwis. The outlet also notes that Habs Hospitality Group got its start in 2015 and that its March 20, 2026 writeup is the first time the plan has been publicly spotted.
Habs Hospitality's footprint
The Tacos Awiwis concept comes from Dulce and Omar Lugo’s operation under the broader Habs umbrella. The Habs Hospitality Group site lays out the company’s brands and contact information, while the Habaneros site highlights its Pan-Mexican restaurants across the Northshore.
That track record suggests Tacos Awiwis will pull from the group’s existing playbook: familiar recipes, streamlined service and a setup that leans more toward a compact counter and takeout model than a lingering, full-service dining room.
Menu hints and opening-day giveaway
Hints about what will be on the line are already hiding in plain sight. Existing menu listings tied to the group use the name “Tacos Awiwis,” pointing to a straightforward taco-focused approach at the new shop, according to a Habaneros menu on Toast. That suggests plenty of familiar fillings for regulars who already know the brand.
The opening-day promotion of two free tacos per guest for the first 100 customers, capped at 200 tacos total, was reported by WhatNow. It is the kind of deal that tends to draw early-morning lines, so neighbors may want to time their lunch break accordingly.
Where it will sit in downtown Covington
Local business listings on Yahoo Local show Lee’s Hamburgers at its newer address, 1105 N. Collins Blvd., after a move last year that left the Lake Drive space up for grabs. That small strip at 104 Lake Drive already has a track record for quick-serve and neighborhood-friendly spots, so a taqueria chasing both daytime office traffic and evening crowds fits right in.
Habs has not yet posted a full menu or pinned down opening day. We will update readers once the group goes public with an official launch date and more details on what, exactly, will be wrapped inside all those free tacos.
