A drive along Galveston’s iconic Seawall took a frightening turn Tuesday afternoon when a car left Seawall Boulevard and ended up in the Gulf, sending the driver to the hospital and adding another entry to the road’s already rough safety record.

Galveston police said the crash was one of several dangerous incidents across the Houston area that were highlighted during ABC13’s afternoon newscast, which also covered a pawn shop shooting in Aldine and a home-invasion shooting in southwest Houston. Emergency crews responded to the Seawall scene while investigators worked into the evening.

According to ABC13 Houston, officers said the driver, a 50-year-old man, accidentally drove off the road in the 6100 block of Seawall Boulevard. He was taken to the hospital conscious and breathing. Investigators told ABC13 they do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. A Galveston police representative added that incidents like this are not unusual along the busy beachfront stretch and urged drivers to stay alert.

The Seawall has seen similar crashes and ongoing maintenance problems. A section of Seawall Boulevard buckled during extreme heat in August 2025 and required overnight repairs, the Houston Chronicle reported. The Houston-Galveston Area Council’s transportation program lists proposed Seawall upgrades, including what it calls a “new low linear barrier” and traffic calming measures, aimed at improving pedestrian safety along the roadway, according to H-GAC.

Crime Roundup: Pawn Shop Heist And Southwest Houston Shooting

ABC13 also spotlighted two violent scenes inside Houston city limits.

In the Aldine area, two masked men allegedly robbed a pawn shop in the 11800 block of Airline Drive around 2 p.m. A customer chased the suspects, and gunfire was exchanged. A woman customer was hit in the leg and taken to a hospital, where she is expected to be OK, ABC13 reported.

On the southwest side, ABC13 detailed a midnight episode near Ingomar Way in which a “bloodied” man reportedly knocked on doors, then forced his way into a home. The homeowner shot the intruder, who was taken to the hospital in critical condition. A masked accomplice fled the area.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the Seawall crash or either shooting to come forward. The Houston Police Department lists its Major Assaults & Family Violence division at 713-308-8800, and Crime Stoppers of Houston accepts anonymous tips at 713-222-TIPS.
