A Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy was hurt Thursday afternoon when a driver fleeing from deputies smashed into a marked sheriff’s vehicle in the Goulds neighborhood, authorities said. The crash happened around 3 p.m. near Southwest 224th Street and 115th Avenue, and first responders rushed the deputy to a nearby hospital, where officials described the deputy’s condition as stable. The suspect was taken into custody at the scene.
According to Local10, deputies were trying to pull over a vehicle when the driver took off. Investigators say the fleeing motorist blew through a stop sign and crashed into a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office detective’s car. The sheriff’s office reiterated that the injured deputy was in stable condition at the hospital, and officials have not yet released the suspect’s name or any potential charges.
Goulds Has Seen Other Deputy-Involved Incidents
The collision adds to a recent run of high-profile law enforcement encounters in Goulds. In September, a deputy-involved shooting in the area drew significant attention, with bodycam footage later released late last year, as reported by WSVN and previously covered in detail in a report on the fatal shooting of an armed suspect in Goulds. Those earlier incidents fueled added scrutiny of police activity in the neighborhood and helped drive a heavier law-enforcement presence in southwest Miami-Dade.
Investigation Ongoing
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office crash investigators and deputies stayed on scene into the afternoon, collecting evidence and speaking with witnesses, according to Local10. Officials have not yet said whether the wreck was tied to any specific pursuit policy decisions and noted that more details will be released as the investigation moves forward.
Neighbors said the jarring midday collision and the rapid influx of squad cars left them rattled. This story will be updated as the sheriff’s office and county investigators release additional information.
